Your Questions About Regeneration

Mary asks…

Regeneration?
According to this fact, (new cells replace dead and damaged cells), why can't humans regenerate whole body parts like octopuses and lizards. We can heal our wounds throughout this cell division but why can't we replace body parts?

Mark answers:
It's a great question, it's being worked on. It has to do with regulation of the genes that direct cells to grow, divide, and take on certain identities.
Human livers can regenerate, and even know

regeneration
